Washington State Ferries (WSF) is a state agency that operates passenger and automobile ferries. The company is the largest ferry operator in the United States, and is the fourth largest in the world. In 2016, WSF transported more than 24 million passengers on its vessels.
As of 2020, the state agency operated 21 ferries. The company's largest vessels have double-sided car decks and bridges at each end, so the waterliner doesn't have to be turned around. They can carry about 2,500 passengers and 200 cars. The WSF ferries have a white and green finish that is distinctive to the company.
The ferry operator carries passengers and vehicles on 11 routes:
The last three crossings are also called the «triangle route». Almost all trips are extremely popular, so we recommend to book the ferry ticket in advance.
In October 2021, WSF officials announced a reduction in service to the entire ferry system. All routes are reducing the number of crossings. The reason for that decision was said to be the severe lack of personnel, due to which the company can't provide passengers with high quality service. This measure was called temporary, but so far it is not known when the number of crossings will return to its previous level.
With all these nuances, it is recommended to book a ticket in advance for the flight you want. Because of the reduction in the number of crossings it will be more difficult to do so than before.
You can book your ticket in advance.
