The small archipelago, consisting of more than 55 small islands, is located southwest of the Cornwall Peninsula. The Sylli archipelago is the westernmost and southernmost point of England, while being the southernmost point of Great Britain.
The islands have a special sui generis status, and are subject to the decisions of the local Council. Characteristically, only 5 of the 55 islands have an area of more than 1 square km. and settled. The rest of the islands are deserted and virgin desert.
Most of the population of the archipelago lives on the island of Saint Marys, and in addition to serving tourists, is engaged in growing flowers. Flowers on the islands grow very well, for them both the climate and the abundance of sunny days are ideal. No wonder the islands of Silly are also called "sunny islands."
At the northern end of the island is the eight-pointed Star Castle, built during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The path along the castle rampart is a wonderful place from which you can admire the islands and thousands of rocky cliffs scattered across the sea. The island has many ancient crypts and ruins of ancient buildings - favorite places for lovers to feel like archaeologists.
At the Church Street Local Museum, you can view exhibits collected from the wrecks of various ships. By the way, it is the search for treasures from sunken ships that attracts thousands of diving lovers to the islands of Silly.
