Kavala is an important port hub in Northern Greece (Macedonia) on the coast of the Aegean Sea. The city has been known since antiquity as Neapolis, the Greeks, Bulgarians and Turks successively replaced each other and Kavala stores architectural monuments of all eras: the Byzantine fortress, the aqueduct of the time of Suleiman the Magnificent, the church of St. Paul (now Nicholas the Wonderworker), the town hall. Not far from the city is Mount Athos.
Ferries from Kavala depart to almost 20 ports on the islands and mainland Greece. Transportation is carried out by Blue Star Ferries, part of the Attica Group.
Passengers are offered economy class tickets without specifying a place, tickets with specified seats in aviation-type seats and similar business class tickets in more comfortable seats. The price of the ticket and the cost of transportation depends on the direction and size of the car. On short lines like to Lemnos, the ticket price starts at 16.5 euros for a passenger and 51 euros for a car crossing. On the line to Piraeus, the ticket price for a passenger starts from 64 euros and 95 euros for transporting a car, on the Kavala-Ikaria line, the ticket price for a passenger starts from 38 euros, and for transporting a car - from 121 euros. Ferries run mainly weekly, the schedule has seasonality, in a high season the frequency of flights increases.
The port is international, not only ferries enter it, but sometimes cruise ships along the Aegean Sea - Regent Seven Seas, Azamara, Oceania Cruises. Local cruises on boats and yachts are organized from the port of Kavala - on the islands of the Aegean Sea, to Mount Athos, the duration of cruises is up to 12 hours.
The port is located on the promenade in the city center, has good access roads, a large car park, nearby are restaurants, shops, hotels, near there is a good sandy beach. The port has customs.
It is easy to get to the port from Megas Alexandros International Airport - it is located 30 km, or from Thessaloniki Airport - more than 160 km will require at least 2 hours of driving.
