Haysham is a small fishing town in England, located near Lancaster. Travellers will find it interesting with its many well-preserved Viking monuments and beautiful views. Must-see places – the local harbor with its amazing nature, a small coastal village consisting of unusual 17th century cottages, and the local nuclear power plants, whose suggestive outlines form a beautiful picture.

Haysham Port

One of the most important parts of the city – the port, which was built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is closely interconnected with the Midland Railway – together they serve a significant portion of Britain's freight traffic. The first passenger crossing was made in 1904 to Douglas, on the Isle of Man.

In 2001, the port was purchased by «Mersey Docks and Harbor Company» after which it began an active modernization. Several recreational facilities (hotels and restaurants) were built, as well as comfortable facilities that make it easier for tourists to wait for flights. To date, ships from the port sail to the following destinations:

  • Dublin.
  • Douglas.
  • Belfast.
  • Grenland.
  • Warrenpoint.

The most frequent crossings are to Douglas. They are served by «Isle of Man Steam Packet» which offers customers a high frequency of flights (up to 13 per week). The organization uses high-speed modern ferries with comfortable onboard facilities that make crossing a small and very pleasant cruise. Crossings on other routes are made less frequently.

Ways to get to the port

There is no airport directly in Heysham, but it is possible to fly to another major UK city and get there by train or shuttle bus from there. The alternative option – take a ferry and get from the previously described points.
